Miscarriage and Abortion have many genetic causes
Miscarriage or spontaneous abortion is technically called Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL). It has several genetic causes that should be determined by gene testing. Identifying your genetic causes can lead to targeted, evidence-based therapy, and therefore a successful pregnancy.
A common variation in the gene responsible for vitamin B metabolism (MTHFR) can also cause this condition and must be tested. If positive, personalized vitamin supplementation may benefit you for a successful pregnancy.
Genes responsible for thrombophilia or hypercoagulability that may cause RPL and Preeclampsia include:
- Factor V (Leiden mutation)
- Factor II (Prothrombin mutation)
- PAI-1 or SERPINE1 (plasminogen activator inhibitor)
Boost IVF success rates with personalized hormone dosage
Even in the UK, IVF has a success rate of only 25%. Most women frequently face cancelled cycles and poor response to hormones leading to IVF failures. This is mostly because of using non-personalized hormones and dosage.
But this can be improved dramatically with genetic testing. Over the last 20 years, scientists have identified genetic clues to substantially improve IVF success rates.
Predicting your response to hormones using genetic tests have recently been shown to improve success by over 30%. Test your genes coding for the FSH receptor (FSHR), estrogen receptor (ESR1) and LH beta-subunit (LHB) to find YOUR hormone dosage for IVF.
Improve sperm count and quality with personalized medicine
Even if you have zero sperm count, based on your condition and genetics there may be simple therapies to increase your sperm count and improve sperm quality, and sperm DNA fragmentation.
FSH is an important hormone for spermatogenesis. Modern science has found that many men have genetic variations in this hormone pathway leading to poor sperm count and quality, and high DNA fragmentation.
But a simple genetic test from blood or an oral swab is enough to find these variations in your genes: FSH receptor (FSHR) or FSH beta-subunit (FSHB), and a gene for vitamin B metabolism (MTHFR) that is also responsible for poor sperm count and quality, and high DNA fragmentation.
Based on the test results, simple hormone therapies or personalized vitamin supplementation can boost your sperm production and quality restoring your fertility.
Y chromosome microdeletions test determines your success of invasive procedures
While enlarged veins in scrotum (varicoceles) exist in many men, varicocelectomy, a procedure to correct them has a very high failure rate. 80% of men are still infertile after this procedure.
Similarly, procedures for extracting sperms directly from the testes (TESE and micro-TESE) are also dependent on your genetics.
Your genes help guide not only your targeted treatment, but also help avoid repeated surgeries that may not be effective. About 15% of infertile men are likely to have microdeletions in their Y chromosome.
Accurately identifying the region that is deleted is important to find out which therapies are likely to work. So test before spending on procedures that may not work for you.
